The simplicity of Kim’s vessels display the grain and natural colour of the woods being used. His making is a response to the nature of the wood and is intuitive and emotional, rather than prescriptive and defining. Although a vessel-maker, his concern is with the form and surface; function becomes peripheral. Primarily, he likes to make shavings.
