Marches Makers Festival Artist 2019
Ambrose Burne
Ambrose Burne is in an artist blacksmith based in the Welsh Marches; designer maker of high quality metal sculptures and bespoke architectural ironwork fusing contemporary artistic ideas and design principles with traditional craft techniques. Ambrose finds inspiration in steel as a medium due to the diverse ways the material can be manipulated when hot, once cooled it is physically strong, so can be used to create robust and durable constructions.
Work is divided between production of architectural structures, mostly for gardens and exploring forged metal through sculpture. Sculptural forms are derived from studying how growth and movement is visually expressed in the natural world; especially focussing on the logic and progression of components in relation to overall form. The sculptural works also inform the style of the architectural work combined with visual vocabulary drawn from historical blacksmithing practices.
