Marches Makers Festival

A Celebration of

Makers and Making

April 30th, May 1st and 2nd 2022
Picture

In August of 2021 we were finally able to hold the festival that had been planned and prepared for May of 2020.  As the early May Bank Holiday is the traditional date for our festival we were keen to reclaim our place in the calendar.

The question for the committee has been, do we wait until 2023, or plan for 2022 with significantly less time to prepare?

Full of enthusiasm after August’s exciting and well-received event, we decided to take the plunge and go for the earlier date.  This enables us to step back into our place in Kington’s annual panoply of festivals, create continuity, and build on the excitement from our 2021 successful event.

For this one unusual year we have made some changes to the format - this year there will not be a signature exhibition organised by the festival committee.... but read on....

Instead, we have invited Makers who live in Kington to open their studios or to create pop-up ‘front-room galleries', and Makers from outside Kington (but within a 20 mile radius of the town) to find an exhibition space in town in which to create a venue.  Excitingly, there are already several proposed exhibitions, including locations such as Number 9 Church Road, Made in the Marches Gallery, and Birches Farm as well as a variety of open studios around the town.

The Market Hall (with its demonstrations and hands-on activities) will again be the Festival Hub, and many of the other independently organised events will go ahead as they have in previous years.

There has been so much enthusiasm for the Marches Makers Festival that we are confident many of our makers will take up the challenge and find a way to exhibit and join in!

The Marches Makers Team are delighted to invite you all to visit Kington over the holiday weekend to enjoy and join in the wonderful creativity on display throughout our town.

As our plans and bright ideas become realities we will announce them here and on social media - please keep in touch - we are looking forward to an exciting and happy Festival in 2022!!

Marches Makers Festival Flyer 2022

We have produced a flyer with a map and details of all the exhibitions, artists and open studios.  These are available in venues throughout Kington and the surrounding towns.  If you haven't managed to pick one up - you can download it here:

THE 2021 FESTIVAL FILMS
By careful adherence to the covid restrictions in place during the summer of 2021 we were able to hold a wonderful Marches Makers Festival.  However, we were very conscious of people who were not able to attend and so we created a number of videos of the festival so they could join in the fun remotely.  You can view the films here:
