“I was born in 1955 to a musician mother and an engineer father. In spite of a healthy dose of creativity from various artistic forbears, I still managed to spend 25 years at the daily grind in central London.
Luckily, the creative urge got the upper hand in the late 1990's when I threw away the suit and tie, changed career and became a book binder. In 2003 I upped sticks to Hereford where for several years I had a small bindery producing weird and wonderful nature-inspired books. Weaving started as a hobby, but then took over as the main focus of my creativity - helped by the acquisition of a spinning wheel. About 12 years ago I moved to Kington.
A deep-rooted love of nature and things natural has always pervaded my work and I concentrate on using materials, sustainable fibres such as wool, alpaca, mohair, silk, angora and even banana. I occasionally experiment with fibres synthesised from wood - viscose, bamboo, tencel, and other fibres created from soya, seaweed corn and milk protein.
For my own pleasure I design and make many of my own clothes (including 3 kilts), do tapestry, beadwork and other needlework and am currently attempting to learn the kora.”
Sadly, Adam died on 23rd February 2024. Adam had taken part in previous Marches Makers Festivals and had a stall at the monthly Art and Craft Market. He was a much loved, valued and respected part of the Kington and wider artist community
To honour his extraordinary life and artistry, some of Adam's hand made work is being displayed in the Market Hall and in St Mary's Church during the Festival
