Marches Makers Festival Artist 2022
Alan Mathews
Exhibiting at Made in the Marches Gallery
I am a semi-retired Toolmaker Engineer, who from a very, very young age was always interested in all things mechanical. In 1953 I joined Vickers Armstrong as a toolmaking apprentice and continued working for the company until the early seventies.
It was always my ambition to run my own toolmaking company and to that end I took the plunge in the early 70’s producing plastic mould tools.
When I finally semi-retired, I moved to the beautiful Welsh Marches bringing with me SABLE. No - not my wife, but Stuff Accumulated Beyond Life Expectancy!
Rather than waste SABLE, I have in recent times, been up-cycling them into unique (never to be repeated) lighting which you see here in the exhibition.
