Marches Makers Festival Artist 2019
Guy Lester

I attended the foundation course at Farnham Art School in 1978. I then continued with a 3-year fine art degree at Camberwell School of Art. My tutor at Camberwell was David Hepher. I learnt a great amount from his approach. David painted away in the corner of the shared studio at Camberwell. He would stop when asked a question and as soon as he felt he had answered he would continue, tirelessly  painting his monumental depictions of London tower blocks. I learnt that either one quietly got on with painting and was absorbed by the activity, or one didn’t.

After this I lived on a barge in Burgundy for a decade painting landscapes. On returning to England in 1992 I painted landscapes and murals to commission for nearly two decades, which was probably enough.
