Marches Makers Festival Artist 2022
Malcolm Mellen
Exhibiting at Made in the Marches Gallery
Demonstrating carved stone and decorative engraving in the Market Hall, Sun & Mon 10am-4pm
As part of a lifelong interest and enthusiasm for artistic expression Malcolm began creating distinctively decorated stones about 12 years ago. Over the intervening years he has developed and refined a unique fusion of design and techniques, drawing on artistic principles from rather diverse traditions such as illumination, anglo saxon and celtic art, scrollwork in its many forms and botanical painting. His animal and flower subjects are often set around geometrical layouts influenced by crop circle designs.
Alongside his private work he receives regular commissions for house signs, memorial stones and plaques, garden feature stones, anniversary gifts, and a particular speciality being cherished tractor and vehicle 'portraits' engraved and painted onto natural stones. He has a workshop in Presteigne but also works in situ if necessary.
