Marches Makers Festival Artist 2019

I have always been a keen artist/maker, but had to fit this around my working and family life. Three years ago I semi-retired, which gave me the opportunity to give more time to my art.
In 2016 I did the one year Portfolio Course at Hereford College of Arts. This gave me the opportunity to fully immerse myself in a creative environment and to explore myself as an artist.
I am very interested in the natural world, conservation and recycling. My final piece for the course combined all of these interests in 'The Road Spill Shrine', which was made from rubbish thrown from cars immediately outside Kington. I wanted to make something unusual which would attract people's attention, and hopefully change some attitudes and behaviours. This piece was on display in the town centre last autumn and is now in the foyer at Lady Hawkins school.
Most of my work is made from willow and other natural materials. I try to capture some of the life essence of the animals I make. The pieces are made as garden sculptures that will naturally decay and become part of the environment once again. A full circle from growth to decay.
