Marches Makers Festival Artist 2019
Sharon Hall Shipp
I was born in Staffordshire and moved to mid-Wales in 2013. I come from a family of artisans, including basket weavers and rug makers. I grew up acquiring craft skills, but opted eventually to pursue fine art. I studied fine art in London, photography in Brighton and painting at West Dean. Before becoming a full-time artist, I was an archaeologist and historical researcher and I often draw upon this experience in my art.
I have an interdisciplinary art practice, using the media and format most appropriate to the ideas and concepts being expressed, with outcomes varying from 2D work including photography, digital imaging and printmaking, through to 3D forms, including artists' books, installation and site-specific work. I work with paper, textile, found objects and images, and natural materials such as wood and slate.
My work has been shown at curated shows throughout the UK and I have exhibited in New York, Rome, Venice and Athens. One of my artists' books is in the collection of the Tate.
I also work collaboratively with the artist Richard Shipp on projects involving mixed media, photography, video and audio.
My work is supported by the Fibbersley Foundation.
