Marches Makers Festival Artist 2019
Susannah Lester
I paint nature, and the marginalized inhabitants of the natural world, whose intricacies and vulnerabilities are too often overlooked. My work has been land and waterscapes, ways through, arches and bridges, pared down to a simplified form and imbued with light. The wilder place the better.
I have been working as a professional painter for over 30 years, having had a classical training, in Florence, Italy and have exhibited widely in one woman, joint and group shows.
I'm on a journey from my 'solid as a rock' start, becoming more and more interested in the layering of paint and immediacy of brush stroke, and other mixed media ways of applying paint. A more intangible, sometimes ephemeral, always difficult, way towards an opening up and warming of the heart.
